    Adaptive CBC : Are the Benefits Justifying its Additional Efforts Compared to CBC?

    Currently, there is a big discussion ongoing among both practitioners and scientists whether the benefits of the Adaptive Choice-Based Conjoint (ACBC) analysis in comparison to (standard) Choice-Based Conjoint (CBC) analysis are justifying the additional costs and efforts of ACBC. To answer this question, recent studies in literature are reviewed and a conducted ACBC (n=205) about e-commerce in an international context is analyzed with regards to several aspects, e.g. excluded attribute levels and stimuli used for the Choice Tasks section. The results indicate that CBC is generally able to provide the main information about the most preferred attribute levels with less effort compared to ACBC. However, ACBC is very suitable for more complex products or services and for gaining deeper insights, such as information about the second-best options or completely unacceptable features. Furthermore, CBC requires a bigger sample size and is often less precise. Still, the related context will remain the main factor for or against the usage of one or the other method

    An automaton over data words that captures EMSO logic

    We develop a general framework for the specification and implementation of systems whose executions are words, or partial orders, over an infinite alphabet. As a model of an implementation, we introduce class register automata, a one-way automata model over words with multiple data values. Our model combines register automata and class memory automata. It has natural interpretations. In particular, it captures communicating automata with an unbounded number of processes, whose semantics can be described as a set of (dynamic) message sequence charts. On the specification side, we provide a local existential monadic second-order logic that does not impose any restriction on the number of variables. We study the realizability problem and show that every formula from that logic can be effectively, and in elementary time, translated into an equivalent class register automaton

    Frequency-Invariant Representation of Interaural Time Differences in Mammals

    Interaural time differences (ITDs) are the major cue for localizing low-frequency sounds. The activity of neuronal populations in the brainstem encodes ITDs with an exquisite temporal acuity of about . The response of single neurons, however, also changes with other stimulus properties like the spectral composition of sound. The influence of stimulus frequency is very different across neurons and thus it is unclear how ITDs are encoded independently of stimulus frequency by populations of neurons. Here we fitted a statistical model to single-cell rate responses of the dorsal nucleus of the lateral lemniscus. The model was used to evaluate the impact of single-cell response characteristics on the frequency-invariant mutual information between rate response and ITD. We found a rough correspondence between the measured cell characteristics and those predicted by computing mutual information. Furthermore, we studied two readout mechanisms, a linear classifier and a two-channel rate difference decoder. The latter turned out to be better suited to decode the population patterns obtained from the fitted model

    The Importance of Sustainability Aspects When Purchasing Online: Comparing Generation X and Generation Z

    As research on sustainability orientation across generations is still sparse, we contribute to literature by enriching this research field, focusing on Generation Z (‘Zers’) and X (‘Xers’). Moreover, no other study has analyzed cross-generational differences in the sustainability context by making use of choice experiments, which overcome issues related to (Likert) scale item investigations, and allow respondents to evaluate the trade-off between different purchase factors simultaneously. We thus applied one of the most recent advancements in choice experiments, named Adaptive Choice-Based Conjoint analysis, which appears to be more realistic than previous alternatives. The results indicate Zers consume more sustainably (inter alia higher importance of social labels; higher purchase likelihood) when shopping online; however, differences within each generation were uncovered, especially among Xers (e.g., gender differences regarding importance of price)

    Comprehensive investigation of crystallographic, spin-electronic and magnetic structure of (Co0.2Cr0.2Fe0.2Mn0.2Ni0.2)3O4(Co_{0.2}Cr_{0.2}Fe_{0.2}Mn_{0.2}Ni_{0.2})_3O_4 : Unraveling the suppression of configuration entropy in high entropy oxides

    High entropy oxides (HEOs) are a rapidly emerging class of functional materials consisting of multiple principal cations. The original paradigm of HEOs assumes cationic occupations with the highest possible configurational entropy allowed by the composition and crystallographic structure. However, the funda- mental question remains on the actual degree of configurational disorder in HEOs, especially, in systems with a low enthalpy barriers for cation anti-site mixing. Considering the experimental limitations due to the presence of multiple principal cations in HEOs, here we utilize a robust and cross-referenced char- acterization approach using soft X-ray magnetic circular dichroism, hard X-ray absorption spectroscopy, Mössbauer spectroscopy, neutron powder diffraction and SQUID magnetometry to study the competition between crystal field stabilization energy and configurational entropy governing the cation occupation in a spinel HEO (S-HEO), (Co0.2Cr0.2Fe0.2Mn0.2Ni0.2)3O4. In contrast to the previous studies, the derived complete structural and spin-electronic model, (Co0.6Fe0.4)(Cr0.3Fe0.1Mn0.3Ni0.3)2O4, highlights a signifi- cant deviation from the hitherto assumed paradigm of entropy-driven non-preferential distribution of cations in HEOs. An immediate correlation of this result can be drawn with bulk as well as the local ele- ment specific magnetic properties, which are intrinsically dictated by cationic occupations in spinels. The real local lattice picture presented here provides an alternate viewpoint on ionic arrangement in HEOs, which is of fundamental interest for predicting and designing their structure-dependent functionalities
